Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded for Pioneering AI Research
John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton have been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking work in developing artificial neural networks, a key element of modern machine learning.

IBM has announced the availability of its Granite large language model (LLM) on the SAP AI Core, part of the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).

The first model to launch is Granite 13b.chat, now accessible through the Generative AI Hub on SAP AI Core. Granite 13b.chat can perform tasks like question-and-answer (Q&A) systems, making it ideal for creating AI assistants and chatbots.
This model enhances finance, human capital management, supply chain, and CRM processes by leveraging the rich data within SAP systems.
Granite models are known for being lightweight, cost-effective, and highly customisable. These models are designed with data transparency at the forefront. Stanford University’s Foundation Model Transparency Index 2024 recognises Granite as one of the most transparent AI models.
IBM’s approach to AI emphasises efficiency. Smaller models like Granite require less computational power, making them well-suited for organisations looking to scale generative AI solutions.
Granite models can be fine-tuned to meet specific business needs, helping companies innovate in document summarisation, customer classification, inventory management, and decision support.
