Challenge
A GRC solutions software company needed to extract data from engineering drawings that used complex, non-standard notation. Standard OCR tools couldn’t parse it reliably. Manual entry was the fallback, but it was slow, costly, and carried real safety-critical risk if a reading was wrong. As drawing volume grew, manual extraction stopped being viable at all.
Solution
NexaQuanta combined computer vision and OCR, trained specifically on engineering drawing conventions, to automatically identify and extract the required data fields with high precision. The solution was embedded directly into the client’s existing GRC software, so no process change was needed on the client’s side.
The system runs on AWS Cloud, combining computer vision, OCR, and machine learning in a single extraction pipeline.
Results
Extraction accuracy meets compliance and safety-critical standards.
- High-volume drawing processing handled without additional headcount or operational cost.
- Embedded directly into existing software, with no workflow disruption for the client’s team.
What this means going forward
This wasn’t a generic OCR tool applied to a specialised problem. It was trained specifically on the notation conventions engineering drawings actually use, which is why it succeeded where standard tools failed. Accuracy at a safety-critical standard was the bar, and that’s what the deployment had to clear before it could ship.
