AWS positions the European Sovereign Cloud as sovereign-by-design, with technical and operational controls embedded at the core of the platform rather than applied as add-ons.

IBM has announced IBM Sovereign Core, a new software offering designed to help enterprises, governments, and service providers build and operate AI-ready sovereign environments with full operational authority.

Google Introduces Open Agentic Commerce Standards and AI Tools to Help Retailers Capture High-Intent Shoppers

Google has announced a set of new agentic commerce standards and AI-powered tools designed to help retailers connect with shoppers as AI-driven purchasing becomes more mainstream.

As agentic shopping evolves from experimentation to execution. The company is positioning these updates to support retailers across discovery, checkout, and post-purchase engagement.

Universal Commerce Protocol Sets Foundation for Agentic Shopping

At the centre of the announcement is the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), a new open standard created to enable AI agents, retailers, and payment providers to operate seamlessly across the full shopping journey.

UCP establishes a common language that allows agents to interact with retail systems without requiring custom integrations for each platform.

It is compatible with existing agent and payment protocols and developed with major retailers. It includes Shopify, Etsy, Target, Walmart, and Wayfair, with support from more than 20 ecosystem partners.

Google plans to begin using UCP to power a new checkout experience on eligible product listings.

Retailers remain the seller of record, while shoppers can complete purchases using saved payment and shipping details.

Branded AI Agents Bring Retailers Closer to Customers

Google is also launching Business Agent, a branded AI assistant that allows shoppers to interact directly with retailers within Search. The agent can answer product questions in a brand’s voice and support decision-making during high-intent shopping moments.

Business Agent is launching with selected U.S. retailers, with plans to expand capabilities over time. Future enhancements include agent training using retailer data, customer insights, personalised offers, and direct purchases through agent-led checkout.

OpenAI Partners with Cerebras to Add Ultra-Low-Latency AI Compute to Its Platform

OpenAI has announced a partnership with Cerebras to expand its AI infrastructure with 750MW of ultra-low-latency compute.

The collaboration adds a new class of purpose-built inference hardware designed to accelerate long and complex AI outputs.

Strengthening Real-Time AI Performance

Cerebras systems are ideal for speed by combining compute, memory, and bandwidth on a single large-scale chip. This design reduces bottlenecks typically associated with conventional AI hardware and enables faster inference.

For OpenAI, integrating Cerebras into its infrastructure is focused on making AI interactions more responsive. Faster response times allow users to run higher-value workloads, engage more deeply, and support more natural, real-time AI experiences.

A Portfolio-Based Compute Strategy

OpenAI described the partnership as part of a broader strategy to build a resilient and diversified compute portfolio.

Cerebras will serve as a dedicated low-latency inference layer within OpenAI’s platform, complementing existing compute solutions rather than replacing them. Integration will occur in phases, with expansion planned across multiple workloads.

Long-Term Capacity Expansion

The new compute capacity will be online in multiple tranches through 2028.
